Pro League: India Women Create Chances, But Belgium's Finishing Makes the
Difference
It’s
a familiar story for the Indian women’s hockey team—plenty of effort, plenty of
chances, but no goals to show for it. In their latest FIH Pro League clash
against Belgium, the Indian team once again found themselves on the wrong side
of the scoreline, going down 2-0.
Despite
making several entries into the Belgian circle and creating opportunities,
India couldn’t convert their chances into goals. Belgium, on the other hand,
were clinical. They struck twice in the third quarter—first through Ambre
Ballenghein, who scored a field goal in the 40th minute, and then just three
minutes later, Lien Hillewaert capitalized on a clever penalty-corner routine
to double their lead.
With
this defeat, things look even more difficult for India in the league standings.
They’ve now slipped to the bottom of the points table, while England—also
fighting to avoid relegation—moved up to seventh with a convincing 4-1 win over
Spain.
For
the Indian side, it’s another frustrating outing—plenty of promise in their
play, but no reward on the scoreboard.
