Tensions between Israel and Iran hit a boiling point on Saturday, as both sides traded deadly attacks and threats. Israel warned that if Iran continues to strike civilian targets, it would respond with overwhelming force, even threatening to destroy Tehran.
The
stark warning came after Israel launched a major bombing campaign on Friday,
reportedly hitting key Iranian nuclear sites, killing several top commanders
and dozens of civilians. In retaliation, Iran fired waves of missiles and
drones at Israel, lighting up the skies over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem overnight.
At least three people were killed and many more injured.
Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video message, vowing to strike
every part of Iran’s leadership and infrastructure. “We’ve seriously damaged
their nuclear program,” he said.
Israeli
Defence Minister Yoav Gallant added to the threat, accusing Iran’s Supreme
Leader Ayatollah Khamenei of endangering his own people. “If he keeps targeting
our civilians, the people of Tehran will pay the price,” he said.
The
Israeli military echoed those sentiments, claiming their recent operations had
given them the upper hand. “We’ve cleared the skies all the way to Tehran,”
said army spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin. “Tehran is no longer out
of reach.”
