J&K Police Set Up Special Helplines to Reopen Militancy-Linked Cases
Srinagar
– In a move aimed at delivering justice to victims of terrorism, the Jammu
and Kashmir Police have launched special helpline cells to reopen
long-pending cases related to militancy. These initiatives are part of a
broader push to trace and hold accountable individuals involved in terror acts,
some of whom are believed to be currently working in government departments.
The
police have rolled out dedicated grievance-cum-helpline numbers across
several districts in the Kashmir division, including Anantnag,
Awantipora, Budgam, Baramulla, and Sopore. In the Jammu region, the
district of Doda has already set up a similar cell, with more to follow.
Affected
individuals or their family members can reach out via voice calls, SMS, or
WhatsApp between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on working days, police
officials said.
The
initiative follows a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha
earlier this week, where he reviewed cases of civilians killed by militants
over the years. Calling the killings “brutal acts by Pakistan-sponsored
terrorists,” the LG directed law enforcement agencies to reopen these cases,
file fresh FIRs, and prioritize job allotments for the victims' next
of kin.
He
also issued firm instructions to district authorities and senior police
officials to act swiftly in restoring land and property belonging to
families of terror victims, some of which had reportedly been taken over by
militants or their local supporters.
Further,
LG Sinha urged officials to identify individuals involved in past killings
who may have since entered government service, and to take action where
appropriate. He also directed that families of victims who wish to start their
own businesses be provided support through MUDRA loans and other
self-employment schemes.
The
step is being widely viewed as a major policy shift to acknowledge and support
families affected by militancy and to expose those within the system who may
have links to terrorism.
